Chris Simonite – One to One, Marriage / Couples & Sexual Problem Counselling
Chris works with most conditions ranging from relationship difficulties to anxiety. Chris’s interest in counselling started in 2005 with a course in CBT for Drug and Alcohol Misuse at Sheffield Hallam University. Drug and Alcohol problems often start in an attempt to try and escape something bad, so it stands to reason that in treating a drug and alcohol problem we delve into deeper underlying issues of anxiety, depression, stress, self-esteem etc.
Chris later updated training to move into a more relational type of training called Integrative Counselling. Integrative Counselling calls upon many different counselling modalities, whilst holding the relationship central to the work at hand. What does that really mean? Well, one of the base thoughts of this approach is that we are all equal. We are innately born ‘good’, and from there on out things happen which shape our lives into the lives we live today. Obvious as it might sound, we are neither above, nor below anyone else.
Gaining an understanding on what makes us tick helps to gain a deeper insight into ourselves and often goes a long way into creating a life we are happy with, counsellors often refer to this as congruence. When we feel congruent we would report feelings of wholeness, authenticity, genuineness etc. Congruence will normally become the by product of the Chesterfield and Mansfield counselling service and in essence means we are in harmony with ourselves.
Most of the conditions Chris works with are listed on the services page, though recent, specialist training has led him to major in a number of particular areas. One such specialism being marriages and sexual difficulties, enabling him to offer both short term and long-term counselling for marital problems and anxiety based sexual problems.
Some of his training has had particular focus on:
- Neuroscience
- Behavioural Psychology
- Physiology
- Psychiatry
- Cognitive Sciences
- Psychodynamics
- Humanistic Theories
- Relationships & Attachments
- Child Development
- Self Actualisation
- Spiritualism
